Vancouver Foodies Support "Growing Chefs"

From seedlings to salads, Growing Chefs is getting Vancouver kids excited about creating food. This non-profit society brings the gift of window-sill gardening, cooking, urban agriculture and sustainability into Vancouver elementary school classrooms. These fun lessons are taught by volunteer chefs from some of your favourite local restaurants.

Last Saturday, The Saul Good Gift Co. enjoyed participating is the ultimate Vancouver foodie fundraiser event for Growing Chefs. The content of the evening consisted of Vancouver’s finest food and wines. The narrative of the evening was mapped out like a creative lesson plan designed by a cool teacher.

Dinner was a secret supper featuring simultaneous dinner parties hosted in elegant private homes and prepared by some of Vancouver’s most exciting chefs – Andrea Carlson (formerly of Bishop’s), Jane Cornborough (Campagnolo Restaurants), Boneta‘s Jason Leizert, Ann Kirsebom of Chef Ann’s Gourmet Sauces and Che Baba‘s Geoff Van Hassel.

We caught got up with the crowd of local Vancouver food lovers at the Dessert and Champagne Finale created by an awesome Saul Good vendor: Wendy Boys of Cocolico. It was great to see the abundance of enthusiasm in the crowd. We enjoyed the feast of ice-cream, toppings, confections and caramel whipped cream served by Wendy herself!

Wine was generously provided from our friends at Vista D’Oro. We enjoyed discussing the wine with  @Vanfoodster and getting the low-down on Vancouver’s best restaurants.

Growing Chefs is an important movement that captures the attention of local youth and gets them excited about growing food. When we can successfully inspire kids, we can inspire families. As this movement accomplishes this connection in the community, it continues to expand the reach of influence and inspiration throughout high end restaurants, local urban garden lovers and a diverse group of people who simply love food.

Congratulations to the door prize winners who took home one of our deluxe Saul Good Gift Boxes, full of local, organic, artisan gifts! The winners also won a great Cookbook from one of Vancouver’s best restaurants: Vij’s.
